recipe favorites from 2007

Today I’m back to work but it’s also Cornelius’ birthday which means that I’ve been doing a bit of cake-baking on the side. Last year I made my husband a banana cream pie but this year, I’m making a Guinness Cake based on a Nigella Lawson recipe. From the smell of things, I think this is going to be pretty damn tasty.

So for lack of a taste-tested recipe, I thought I’d go over some of my favorite dishes from last year. Enjoy.

I made a Guinness stout cake last year and it was a total disaster. I was sooooo disappointed, so I am sending you all my good juju for your cake.

I extremely enjoyed the walnut oatmeal burgers…as I’ve already mentioned. I need to try some of those other recipes that you have posted but I’m also trying to cut back on the carb intake as a way of diminishing the pudge…I also joined a fitness club so I’m off to a good start.

I think my husband will enjoy a cake made with beer…post away!

    Happy B-day Cornelius!

I’ve made black & tan cupcakes a few times and have found it difficult to ruin the recipe (the first time I forgot to add sugar, the next I added too much. Both wound up tasty!). It has chocolate stout in the batter and Harp’s in the icing. Can’t wait to hear how yours turned out.

I made the Guinness cake over the holidays and it was great! The darker and sludgier the beer, the better!

Ooo I look forward to your post about the Guinness cake! I love seeing this list of your favourites because there were things I missed that I now want to make! Like the lemon yogurt cake. Happy new year!

I made your chocolate shortbread last week and they didn’t even last 3 days.

Unreal taste and texture – and sooooo easy to make! Thanks for the great recipe.

Russ, glad you loved those cookies as much as I did!

Thanks Rita for commenting! I love your etsy shop (especially the apple brooch, which was in the only etsy treasury i was able to snag!).

Hi–this is my first ever comment on your site. Just want to let you know I’ve been visiting for the past 6 months and really love the way you photograph your creations. That’s talent! You’ve inspired me to think about baking as well, although perhaps further into the New Year, with some distance from holiday indulgences. Anyway, cheers–thanks for blogging!
