prepare for an ass-whoopin’: vegan ginger gems

When I bake things for just me and the husband, I don’t go to too much work. I like to keep things simple and relatively foolproof. But sometimes, when I’m having guests over, I like to guild the lily to make things a little bit more special. When I spotted these Ginger Gems on one of my new favorite blogs, Yeah, That “Vegan” Shit, I knew they’d be perfect for tonight’s activities. What’s tonight? Well, tonight, we’re getting together with friends to play some board games. Ticket to Ride (Europe) and maybe some Settlers of Catan. Betchya didn’t know that I was a totally competitive board game geek? Well, the truth is out. I love almost all board games (Monopoly not included) and I love these cookies. You can make them without the glaze, but why bother? Just look how pretty they are under a dazzling white lemony frosting. And that’s the plan. I’m sure everyone will be so enthralled with my baking capabilities that they won’t even notice just how much I’m kicking their asses!

I haven’t HAD to make Vegan things since I had a vegan roomate about 4 years ago…mabey it is time to start again….these sounds really good. Do all vegans like ginger? It seems they do!

So, how’d you do? Did you kick their butts!?
I’m a Scrabble fan so I guess that makes me an uber nerd 🙂
When I first saw this photo I thought “Swedish meatballs”…but on closer inspection realized that they were a dessert. I like the addition of the glaze on top cause I usually find ginger cookies dry tasting.
    These will have to wait…

p.s. how’s the rain storm situation over there? did you lose power?

thanks geek+nerd, glad you’re liking my blog!

hag, i think you should make vegan things. and it’s not true that all vegans like ginger. one of my vegan friends isn’t a fan!

joanne, there was no ass whopping, sadly. i do love scrabble too! as for the rains, unfortunately, we didn’t lose power, but we can’t drink our water for a few days. brown water = gross.

yes, you can substitute butter or margarine with no problems. even though i’m not vegan, i do use “earth balance” brand of margarine as it contains no trans fats and tastes really great.

Looks superdelicious! Do you think the cookies would turn out okay subsituting regular old margarine for the vegan margarine? I’d hate to invest in an item that I’d prolly never use again.

Just made these, though with evil butter. lol.

However, is that a typo on the vanilla amount? I only put in one teaspoon because one Tablespoon seemed like way too much!

    They are delicious!

Hi! Your blog is so nicely designed… I just found it. And those cooies – MMM mmm. I’m not vegan but since I am trying to reduce dairy in my diet and I’m kosher so I won’t eat a dairy-containing food with a meal that contained meat… I do choose to make vegan baked goods now and again.

Gasp! Boardgame Geeks Unite! I love T2R Europe for the stations! Have you tried Marklin or the 1910 expansion yet? I’m not a Settlers fan (I know, everyone else is,) but I love Carcassonne. That, San Juan, and Wyatt Earp are probably my favorite stand-bys. So glad to see another girl gamer out there!
