Before I go on about some important news, I just want to thank everyone for commenting on my last post. I have never been more touched to receive such beautiful condolences, personal stories and affecting emails. The kindness and generosity that you’ve shown has really made an impression on me. Who knew just writing about what goes on in my kitchen could inspire such compassion and goodness. It all sounds like platitudes, but I really don’t know what to say but thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your words, thank you for sharing your own loss. Knowing that I’m not alone does wonders for the spirit. Thank you.
When the Haiti disaster struck I was in the hospital (the top photo was the view from my mom’s hospital room). My husband recounted to me the news and I felt shock and such sadness for the people of Haiti. I also felt helpless. I didn’t know what to do. Luckily, the wonderful Julie of Dinners with Julie had an idea. She enlisted some truly fabulous writers, chefs and bloggers (I’m lucky to be in their company) to create a cookbook and got the whole shebang done in under 3 weeks. A full colour cookbook available in both hard cover ($50 USD) and soft cover ($25 USD). Seriously, you can read about all her hard work here.
But the gist of the thing is that Julie partnered up with some talented folks with 100% of the book’s proceeds going to Haiti via Doctors without Borders. What’s more is that both the production company and the printer are matching the dollars raised to TRIPLE the amount of money going to Haiti. Add to that, until February 12th, the Canadian government will match that amount. There’s the potential for a lot of money to be raised for the Haitian people.
I bought my copy this morning and it will be printed on demand and shipped to my doorstep in about 8 days. Go to Blurb and take a peek at the book…the preview is gorgeous! I can’t wait for my copy to arrive. For more information and a full list of contributors, check out the Blog Aid blog.
