so ready for the new year to begin.

san francisco

Maybe I’m an optimist, but I don’t like to look back on the year when there are still a few hours left. Who knows, maybe something wonderful will happen to make the year end off on a fantastic and magical note. Or maybe not. Either way, there’s going to be kisses and hugs with my most favorite husband ever even if we celebrate the coming of the new year wearing pyjamas with a good beer in hand. I’m happy to be over with the miasma of 2010. It was a hard year for me and for much of the year I felt like my feet were trapped in mud. I had ideas and goals that I wanted to achieve – big projects were swimming in my head – but when it came down to acting on things, I just couldn’t put one foot in front of the other. It was a strange feeling because I like to do things, get things done and make things happen and in 2010 I felt like I was at a standstill and I didn’t feel 100% like myself.

Hello 2011, I’m ready for a shake up and I’m happy to great this new year with a big ol’ smile.

Of course, despite my more infrequent postings this year, I’m happy with the development of this little space on the web. This year I moved away from blogger onto my own domain and gave this blog a nice little make-over in terms of functionality and appearance. I’m thrilled by your visits, comments and emails – how you’ve shared some parts of yourself with me while I’ve opened up as well. For the first few years of blogging, I never included an email address nor did I reveal my name – hiding behind a moniker felt fine. Until it didn’t anymore. It’s silly because now I see what a wonderful community of peers this food blogging world has brought me. I love all the emails and comments I get and it’s even more amazing when I’ve gotten to meet some of you in real life too. And when I wrote about my mom’s death this past January, it was a gift how you all shared your own thoughts and experiences with me. So thank you for making this such a happy and wonderful space and I look forward to all the challenges and good times to come. I wish you all the happiest year yet in 2011!

And for a bit of good news in the last couple hours of 2010, this blog came in 2nd place behind the beautiful Wish Jar Journal for Best Designed blog and *first place* for Best Food & Drink blog at the 2010 Canadian Weblog Awards. Definitely something to raise a glass to!

See, I told you I was an optimist.

Oh I love the pictures first of all. And I also was one who posted when your Mom passed, even though I don’t know you outside of this domain…I have such feelings rolling back when my Mom did as well, still. You are a sweetheart, and I only wish you were my neighbor!

Congrats on the weblog awards! 2010 was oddly “stuck in the mud” for me too, with some exceptions and I’m hoping 2011 will be filled with nothing but these exceptions. Looking forward to more posts and trying some more recipes!
